Worship

What is Spotswood Worship?

We believe that worship is the only appropriate response to God’s love and grace for His children. Worship is a holy action, centered in Christ and expressed biblically in a multitude of ways. God cares more about the focus of our worship than the form of our worship. We worship first with surrendered lives that seek to serve and glorify Jesus Christ — and all other forms of worship, including music, share the same focus.

Leadership

Grayson Perry

Grayson Perry is our Interim Worship Leader. Alongside the rest of the Spotswood Worship team, Grayson seeks to offer Biblical, Christ-centered, vertically focused worship to God and invite others to offer the same. Grayson has seen how worship that begins with a life surrendered to Jesus as a “living sacrifice” extends to worshiping God “in spirit and truth” (Romans 12:1 ; John 4:23 -24).

Grayson was baptized at Spotswood in 2002 and returned home to Fredericksburg with his wife, Grace, in the spring of 2023. He has an MBA from Liberty University, works full-time in healthcare technology, and serves with Grace, at both Spotswood and Samaritan’s Purse.

Justin Smith

Justin P. Smith is the Director of Worship Technology with over 20 years of experience serving the local church, with the unique skills of music, video, and design to create immersive and engaging worship experiences.

He holds a Bachelor’s in Biblical Studies and a Master’s in Entertainment Business, bringing a combination of theological insight and creative expertise to his work. Psalm 33:3 is his guiding verse: “Sing to him a new song; play skillfully on the strings, with loud shouts.”

Marilla Haas

In October of my sophomore year at Mary Washington College, I was asked to be the Adult Choir director at a newly formed church: Spotswood Baptist. Throughout the years I have served in the music ministry with the adult choir, the orchestra, the graded children’s choirs, handbells, and as organist, pianist, & keyboardist.

Jennifer Lewis

Jennifer Lewis is a PA native and Grove City College alum. Jennifer and her husband joined Spotswood and the orchestra ministry in 2004. She is the band director at Chancellor Middle School, a mom to two awesome boys, and a British TV nerd. “Orchestra at SBC is a place for instrumental musicians to use the talent God gifted us to worship Him!”

Valerie Cook

Valerie came to Spotswood in 1994 and began serving shortly after as a substitute pianist and became a full-time pianist in 2000. “I have been blessed to serve Jesus, and lead others to worship Him for the past 21 years.”

Tanner Honig

Tanner came to Spotswood in 2016, and has been serving first as a volunteer, and then on staff, since then. He is the Education & Worship Ministry Assistant, serving as a musician, and in an administrative capacity to multiple ministries at Spotswood.
