About Baptism.
What is Baptism?
Baptism does not save you. Baptism is a symbol that you are already saved. It is a way to tell or show fellow Believers that are not ashamed of Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior. Who Should be Baptized? Everyone who has trusted Jesus as their Lord and Savior should be baptized.
“Those who accepted his message were baptized.” Acts 2:41 (NIV)
When should I be baptized?
As soon as possible! New Testament followers of Jesus were baptized immediately after putting their trust in Him as their Lord and Savior. Spotswood baptizes believers the first and third Sundays of the month.
Why should I be baptized?
Jesus commanded it. “Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit.” Matthew 28:19 (NIV)
It is an act of obedience. It is a public declaration of your Faith. “Whoever acknowledges me before men, I will also acknowledge him before my Father in Heaven.” Matthew 10:32 (NIV)
Where will I be baptized?
We baptize believers at Spotswood in our heated baptismal pool, behind the choir.
How will I be baptized?
Believer’s baptism is by immersion. It represents the death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus.
When can I be baptized? / Next Steps
At Spotswood, you can be baptized by going forward at the end of the service, as the speaker gives the invitation, and telling one of the pastors that you would like to be baptized. After going forward, you’ll have an opportunity to speak with a counselor about your decision to be baptized. Next, you can schedule your baptism by emailing baptism@spotswood.org or calling Spotswood’s office. Lastly, complete Spotswood’s pre-baptism class for ages sixth grade and up, including adults. Children fifth grade and under will have a scheduled meeting with the children’s pastor. This meeting will provide any information needed for the Sunday of your baptism.
