A Note From Rebecca Diehl

Hello, my name is Rebecca Diehl and I am Spotswood’s Special Needs Coordinator. I have lived in Fredericksburg for twenty years and attended Spotswood from the age of four.

Because I had to overcome many health situations as a child, I saw children and families who did not have the love and support that I had. From a young age, God placed a passion in me for helping children and their families but I did not know where that was going to lead me.

I started volunteering as a middle schooler with Spotswood’s VBS and then on Sundays in the nursery. When I started college, I thought I wanted to major in Exercise science and become a Pediatric Occupational Therapist, but God had a bigger plan as he directed me to change my major at Liberty University to Family and Child Development with a minor in Psychology.

As I got more involved with different family outreaches programs such as, early learning centers, social services and working for the state of Virginia as a caregiver for families God has made my passion clearer to helping families and children with special needs within the church. As God led me to this amazing opportunity to be Spotswood’s Special Needs Coordinator, I am so amazed how God has brought me full circle to the place where I first got involved with children and families.

I look forward to getting to know each family individually and helping you in any way I can. My goal is to make your child or children and you feel at home, loved by God, supported, and prayed for.

New Here?

If you’re new to Spotswood or to our Special Needs ministry – WELCOME! We’re so glad you’re with us and we hope your whole family finds the perfect place to connect. Here are your first steps to connecting with our Special Needs ministry.

Step 1: The Intake Form

To help us give your child the best possible experience on his or her first visit, we would love for you to fill our our intake form. This will help us get to know you a little before your first visit. We will help you determine the best placement for your child and any support needed throughout the morning.

Step 2: Meet & Greet

We would love to meet up with you and your child before their first visit. Just send an email to Rebecca Diehl (specialneeds@spotswood.org) and she will be in touch!

Step 3: Your First Visit

We want your loved one to feel at home with us. One way you can help us do that is by staying with us for the first week he or she attends.

What to Expect

Our Special Needs groups gather on Sunday mornings. We serve children and young adults with all manner of special needs. We love seeing people from this community connecting with God and with one another through the church.

We also love seeing parents find the support and care that they need as well.

Sundays at Spotswood: Our desire is to display the love of Christ to each and every child no matter what age they are. Each child is seen an opportunity for us to love on and not a problem to fix. Every Sunday, we open God’s Word, along with visuals that enhances the lesson of the week. And of course, there’s time for crafts, activities, games and snack. Your child will love the range of activities we take them through.

Our Kids’ Space: Our blue calming (sensory) kids room is a safe, peaceful, fun space we’ve crafted for your child. We provide a lot of sensory tools and other engaging instruments to create the best experience possible. We’re confident your child will feel loved and cared for in our blue calming room.

Our Young Adult Space: Our young adults room is a safe, peaceful, fun space where our young adults can learn and connect with one another. We provide a lot of sensory tools and other engaging instruments to create the best experience possible. We’re confident each adult will feel loved and cared for every time we gather.
