Jesus said, “Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of heaven belongs to such as these.”

Hello, my name is Rebecca Diehl and I am Spotswood’s Special Needs Coordinator. I have lived in Fredericksburg for twenty years and attended Spotswood from the age of four.
Because I had to overcome many health situations as a child, I saw children and families who did not have the love and support that I had. From a young age, God placed a passion in me for helping children and their families but I did not know where that was going to lead me.
I started volunteering as a middle schooler with Spotswood’s VBS and then on Sundays in the nursery. When I started college, I thought I wanted to major in Exercise Science and become a Pediatric Occupational Therapist, but God had a bigger plan as he directed me to change my major at Liberty University to Family and Child Development with a minor in Psychology.
As I got more involved with different family outreach programs such as, early learning centers, and social services and working for the state of Virginia as a caregiver for families God has made my passion clearer for helping families and children with special needs within the church. As God led me to this amazing opportunity to be Spotswood’s Special Needs Coordinator, I am so amazed at how God has brought me full circle to the place where I first got involved with children and families.
I look forward to getting to know each family individually and helping you in any way I can. My goal is to make you and your child or children feel at home, loved by God, supported, and prayed for.

Our calming room is a peaceful, sensory-friendly space for your child to feel safe and supported during their time at Spotswood.
Our Special Needs groups gather on Sunday mornings and include both children and young adults with all manner of special needs. We love seeing individuals from this community connect with God and with one another through the church — and we love seeing parents find the support and care they need as well.
At Spotswood, our desire is to display the love of Christ to every child and young adult, no matter their age or ability. Each individual is seen as an opportunity for us to love — not a problem to fix.
Every Sunday, we open God’s Word together using visuals that enhance each week’s lesson. We also make time for crafts, activities, games, and snacks. Your child or young adult will enjoy the wide range of experiences we offer in a safe, peaceful, and joy-filled environment.
Our blue calming (sensory) kids’ room is a safe, peaceful, fun space we’ve crafted for your child. We provide a lot of sensory tools and other engaging instruments to create the best experience possible. We’re confident your child will feel loved and cared for in our blue calming room.
Our young adults’ room is a safe, peaceful, fun space where our young adults can learn and connect with one another. We provide a lot of sensory tools and other engaging instruments to create the best experience possible. We’re confident each adult will feel loved and cared for every time we gather.
