Spotswood History

Sunday February 19, 1956	Spotswood Baptist Church was formed. They were led by Rev. Maurice Timberlake. Their first meetings were held at the Moose Lodge off Lafayette Blvd., in Fredericksburg.
Christmas 1958	The first building was completed. Membership grew to 295 members with 424 in Sunday School.
May 1973	New sanctuary was completed with a capacity for 600 people.
August 4, 1978	Rev. Bob R. Melvin, began his ministry at Spotswood.
June 1988	Current sanctuary was dedicated to the Glory of God. Auditorium was built to seat 1,500 people.
1994	Growth results in Spotswood expanding to two Sunday School hours.
1995	Again, growth forces Spotswood's Sunday School hours to expand, this time to three hours. Also, we added a second worship service.
1998	Three mobile units were brought on site to create more space.
2002	The addition of the Children's Educational Building is finished.
2005	Current membership is approximately 5,000.
