receiveth not me, but him that sent me.'" Mark 9:37 KJV What is Extended Teaching Care (ETC)? Extended Teaching Care is the ministry of care and teaching for preschoolers, children birth through kindergarten, during worship services. The PURPOSE is to extend the same teaching and guidance offered in Sunday School. It is NOT babysitting. It is a teaching and learning session with planned activities. Those who serve in ETC are expected to make the most of the time available to guide the preschooler through Bible learning activities provided for them. Each age level will have different methods and age appropriate activities but each activity helps the children become increasingly aware of concepts such as God, Jesus, Church, Bible, Self, Family, Others and the Natural World. Will I be by Myself? No. You will be joined by one or more other volunteers to make a teaching team. Do I Have to Prepare Activities Ahead of Time? No. Prior to the time you are scheduled to teach, you will received ETC literature in the mail to let you know the Bible story and some of the activities that will be prepared. When you arrive in the classroom, there will be materials for you to use in teaching the children. How Often Will I Serve? You will be asked to serve only 13 services out of over 200 offered each year! ETC workers serve once a month on consistent Sundays or Wednesdays, plus an additional fifth Sunday or Wednesday once per year. You will get to know the preschoolers and those who serve with you because you will be with them on a regular basis. Your literature will be mailed to you during the week in which you are to serve, and you will receive a reminder phone call. I'm Unsure of What to Do or How to Teach Preschoolers. The literature you receive in the mail will be a big help. It will tell you exactly how to relate the activities to the Bible thoughts being taught. It will also tell you what to say to get the children interested in listening to the Bible story. To help you understand the big picture of how to teach effectively, we periodically offer training opportunities. Will My Schedule Be Flexible? We do have a variety of time you could help. Please choose one you feel is best for you to serve.
If you cannot
serve on your scheduled date (sickness, travel, etc.) the Preschool
Coordinators will let you know what to do.
