Minister to Single and Young Adults Al has served at Spotswood as Minister to the Single and Young adults since December 2002. His responsibilities include leading and developing ministries designed to meet the specific needs of college students, young adults and single adults. Some of the opportunities these ministries offer are Sunday morning Bible studies for all ages; meetings of "SoulSource," a single adult coffee house; meets of "GenNext" for young adults; game nights; rec. nights; monthly potluck dinners; Sunday afternoon discipleship classes; retreats; free transportation to and from the UMW campus, and more. Al graduated in 1984 from Middle Tennessee State University with a BS in Criminology. He then moved here to Virginia to work for the FBI. Working with the Bureau for 18 years he held positions in areas involving public affairs, foreign counter-intelligence, the criminal division and supervised contract background investigations while beginning to follow the Lord's leading in ministry during the mid-1990s. Al met his lovely wife, Melissa while they were both working at the Bureau. They were married in June 1986. They have two wonderful children Emily (Feb. 1992) and Luke (April 1998). He is currently working on his Masters in Divinity. He plans to graduate in May 2006 from Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary in Wake Forest, NC. When not working spending time with his family, or studying Al enjoys weightlifting, learning to play the guitar and fishing with his kids at the local pond. He also enjoys the rare opportunity to play golf or hunt. When asked what his life verse was, he responded, "Philippians 1:6 because it has given me a lot of hope. I'm no different than any other Christian, in that given my faults and proclivities toward making a mess of things, Philippians 1:6 gives me hope. It says, "that He who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion" (NIV). Many times God will let us fall on our faces to teach us a lesson, but when we seek Him, He will bring us back from failures. He will make out of us what He wants us to be. We simply have to be obedient and let God work in us." This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it |
